Buying from Turkey
Airalo does not open on a Turkish connection
In July 2025 the BTK, Turkey's telecoms regulator, ordered access blocked to eight foreign eSIM storefronts, Airalo among them, on the grounds that they sell mobile service in Turkey without a Turkish licence. Their site and app do not load on a Turkish connection, so a traveller flying out of Istanbul cannot buy a plan the night before, and cannot reach the storefront mid-trip to top up or ask for help.
The technology is not banned. eSIMs install and run normally in Turkey; it is those eight storefronts that cannot be reached. GetSim is not on that list, and that is the practical difference for anyone buying from here.
Reading this from anywhere else? The block does not affect you, and the comparison above stands on its own.

When Airalo is the better choice
Airalo pioneered this category, has years of head start and a community footprint we simply do not have yet. If you want the most battle-tested marketplace, the widest third-party review coverage, or your destination happens to be one we do not stock, Airalo is a solid pick and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
Our case
When GetSim makes more sense
You also need a verification number
One wallet covers the eSIM and a real mobile number for SMS codes.
You prefer a prepaid wallet
Top up once instead of entering a card for every purchase.
You want a clear refund window
7 days on unused, unactivated plans, with the conditions written down.
You want to see the network first
Live plan cards name the exact local network before you pay.
Verdict
The honest bottom line
Both products install in minutes, run on real local networks and beat roaming on price for any trip longer than a weekend. The structural difference is scope: Airalo is a mature eSIM-only marketplace; GetSim pairs 196 destination eSIMs with rentable verification numbers in one account. Pick by what your trip actually needs, and compare live prices for your destination before you decide.
