Orange Polska, Play, Plus and T-Mobile Polska share Poland fairly evenly, so the real split is not between them but between two 5G layers. Most 5G here rides on 2100 MHz and performs like strong LTE; the gigabit tier is the separate 3.5 GHz build, and it is young. T-Mobile lit its first 3500 MHz site in January 2024, and its own figure for that layer is over 26 percent of the population, some 2,000 masts across 380-plus towns, so fast 5G means cities. RFBenchmark's June 2026 ranking put T-Mobile first on both, averaging 447 Mb/s on 5G and 64 Mb/s on LTE. The Tatra valleys above Zakopane and the Bieszczady are the weak ground, and TOPR's own advice on a poor signal is to climb toward a ridge.
Chopin handles most arrivals, then Kraków-Balice, which cleared 13.2 million passengers in 2025. Chopin's station sits under the terminal: SKM lines S2 and S3 reach Centrum in about thirty minutes, and the airport tells you to buy at least a 75-minute ticket. Kraków's rail shuttle reaches Kraków Główny in roughly eighteen. Modlin is the outlier, 35 km out, with Ryanair and, since December 2025, Wizz Air again; you take a train to Modlin station and then a shuttle bus. Neither Chopin nor Kraków lists a mobile-operator shop in its own terminal directory, and neither publishes its Wi-Fi login method, so do not plan the first hour around either. A local prepaid SIM must be registered to a named person under the 2016 anti-terrorism act; bring your passport.
Polish prepaid data is cheap and wildly uneven. A T-Mobile starter is 5 PLN online, about 1.35 dollars. Then the same 30 PLN, roughly 8 dollars, buys 15 GB for a month on T-Mobile's top-up table or 300 GB on Plus, which prices at one złoty per 10 GB and one day of validity. Orange sits between at 35 PLN for 50 GB. The cost is the errand, not the money, because every card must be registered first. Nobody registers a hotspot, so bar and hotel Wi-Fi is the one connection here with no paperwork. EU phones roam at home rates here. Americans do not: Verizon's TravelPass is 12 dollars a day for 5 GB before it throttles, so ten days costs more than a year of Plus.
Trains and trams carry most trips here, so your data goes on transit rather than constant turn-by-turn driving. Jakdojade is the transit app Polish cities run on, and Bolt, Uber and FREE NOW all operate here, FREE NOW in 23 Polish cities. Budget for translation too: Polish platform announcements and menus do not yield to guesswork. A week across Warsaw and Kraków with day trips to Auschwitz and Wieliczka fits 5 GB; two weeks adding Gdańsk, Wrocław and Zakopane with daily uploads wants 10 GB. Cache maps before the Tatras, and remember mountain rescue is a voice call, 985 or 601 100 300, which your home SIM handles. Poland borders seven countries, and Berlin, Prague or Vilnius on the same trip puts you outside Polish coverage.
Almost every phone sold since 2018 does. Type your model, or dial *#06# and look for an EID.
Pay once with card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or crypto. The activation QR arrives in your dashboard and email within seconds.
On iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code. On Android: Settings → Network → SIMs → + → Use QR code. Or open the GetSim app and tap install, no QR scanning needed.
Set the GetSim eSIM as your default for cellular data. Your home SIM keeps handling calls and 2FA SMS in the background.
A regional bundle covers Poland and 41+ other countries on a single eSIM, often cheaper than buying separate single-country plans for a multi-stop trip.
